The Head Football Coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics and works in partnership for the good of the University, the Department, and the football program. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity, academic profile, and success of the football program, Department of Athletics, and Saint Augustine’s University. The head coach works closely with other leader/coaches, the athletics administrative staff, and the broader university community to ensure the best experience possible for all student-athletes. Job Duties: The primary focus of the transformational leader coach is to Win Championships… Graduate Student-athletes… Develop Leaders! Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, leading, managing, and directing all phases of the day-to-day operations of the football program by way of recruiting and developing highly successful student-athletes (champions and graduates), recruitment and retention of highly talented coaching staff; prepares, organizes, designs and executes of effective practice and training plans that translates to the field of play. The transformational leader coach designs off-season programs, and recruiting systems; effective and timely budget management, equipment oversight, and travel planning; a commitment to community engagement, fundraising and effective public relations; adherence to NCAA, CIAA, and SAU rules and regulations. The transformational leader coach will institute a Junior Varsity Football Program in the fall of 2023. The JV Program is expected to grow each year through the recruitment and marketing efforts of the varsity staff (i.e., 25 student-athletes for year one and 65 student-athletes by year two). The leader coach will assign a coach from his staff as the head JV coach. Saint Augustine’s University is set to launch a premier football skills development program through its newly formed Junior Varsity (JV) Football Team. The JV Team will consist of freshmen and sophomores willing to further their athletic careers. The JV Team will play upwards of six games against other JV programs in the state. The JV Program receives coaching and guidance from the current Varsity coaching staff including the strength and conditioning coaching staff. The JV Program will mirror the Varsity program in philosophy, training rudiments, film study, policies and procedures, strength and conditioning, study hall, and academic support. As a premier football skills development program, the JV Team will spend significant time on individual skills, academic achievement, position development, and football IQ. In addition, the leader coach performs the following duties: 1. Schedules contest. 2. Monitors and manages football budget. 3. Communicates with program stakeholders (student-athletes, staff, alumni, parents, and various campus departments). 4. Recruits potential student-athletes that meet the established academic profiles and superb athletic skills. 5. Maintains compliance with all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the NCAA, CIAA, and Saint Augustine’s University 6. Supervises and directs a staff of full-time and part-time assistant coaches, team members, and managers. 7. Partners with the Athletic Director and staff for appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies in accordance with department and institutional standards 8. Collaborates with all department areas to create a high-performing environment. 9. Facilitates connection to campus resources for student-athletes. 10. Demonstrates leadership, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct. 11. Maintains a fair and objective relationship with team members. 12. Performs other responsibilities as assigned by Athletics Director. Preferred Qualifications | Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree with seven years of varsity collegiate coaching experience and previous collegiate head coaching experience with a history of winning. Preferred Skills, Experience and Education: The leader coach must possess the keen ability to coordinate and maintain regular communication with athletics staff, including the Director of Athletics or designee, Compliance, Sports Medicine, Business Office, Academic Services, Marketing and Media Relations, Video, Strength & Conditioning, and Facilities Operations. Technology Competency: The leader coach possesses functional knowledge of Microsoft Office and Hudl is needed. Basic personal computer operation and willingness to adapt to a changing technology environment (i.e. updates, security, and new versions). The leader coach has the ability to use multiple internet browsers, competence in email and document management. |
