Job Description
The Department of Education is seeking an adjunct instructor for its Elementary Education program who will be able to teach a variety of courses in the program curriculum as assigned. These courses introduce students to the teaching profession, theories associated with all aspects of student learning and pedagogy, practical application of methods of teaching elementary education subject matter through field experiences and teaching diverse learners. Work assignments may include teaching daytime, evening, online, and hybrid classes and supervising field experiences in public schools.

Saint Augustine’s University accepts application materials for adjunct employment on a continuing basis. These positions are temporary and do not accrue benefits.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach assigned classes in keeping with approved syllabi, outlines, and instructional materials
  • Complete all reporting associated with assigned classes
  • Report student problems to department chair
  • Maintain office hours
  • Attend meetings as scheduled
  • Engage in scholarly/creative activities
  • Other assigned duties as requested by the department chair

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, Reading, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field
  • NC DPI license in related areas
  • Two to three years teaching experience in K-6 classrooms or teacher preparation programs
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient level of computer technology skills to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others. Basic Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Blackboard
  • Strong organizational skills and the capacity to work and thrive in a fast-paced educational environment.
