Primary Function of Organizational Unit | Partnerships & Policy is responsible for working with a variety of internal and external constituencies to advocate for NCCU in achieving its mission of teaching, extension and engagement. These constituents include, but are not limited to the following: federal, state and local governments; UNC System Office; NCCU faculty, staff, students, and alumni; educational institutions; community leaders; businesses and industries in the Research Triangle and City of Raleigh; and counties throughout North Carolina. |

Primary Purpose of Position | This position has primary responsibility for fostering, supporting, and expanding the University’s relationships within the local community, the County national, state, regional, and local governmental and non-governmental organizations that can strengthen the University in its ability to deliver educational and research programs in support of its mission. The Director will represent the University by advancing its priorities with members of the General Assembly and members of Congress and their staffs, and federal/state agency administrators. In addition, the position will interact closely with the UNC General Administration to coordinate the University’s actions on both state and federal policy and funding matters. The Director will report to the Chief of Staff with a dotted line to the Chancellor and will serve as a key part of the University Planning Council. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | Demonstrated success in monitoring, informing and influencing policy at the county, state and federal levels of government and with higher education, industry and research related organizations. Experience in relationship building and strong oral and written communication skills are essential. Must be able to handle a fast-paced workplace environment and be adept in engaging diverse constituencies. |
Minimum Education/Experience | Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of related legislative relations and/or economic development experience. |

On the Advisory Team for Made in Durham, works with NCDOT HBCU program to try to get students to major in Engineering. Developing, cultivating and maintaining relationships. |

NCCU is a part of the State & Federal Relations Council. Position will attend bi-monthly meetings when they are not in session, and weekly meetings when they are in session. |
