Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The NCCU Department of Athletics’ primary purpose is to provide leadership for an NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program. The NCCU Department of Athletics places the highest priority on a quality academic and athletic experience as part of the overall education of student-athletes. The Department of Athletics seeks to strengthen the integration of the athletics program objectives with academic development objectives.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the Development Director includes direct and indirect oversight of athletics development, corporate sponsor and partner operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proven skills in meeting goals for contributions, corporate sponsorships and major gifts for an Intercollegiate Athletics program. The candidate must possess outstanding oral and written communication skills. Preferred experience in using Raiser’s Edge, ticketing system software, and Adobe software packages.
Minimum Education/Experience
The qualified candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree. Master’s preferred. Must have at least five years’ experience in athletics marketing and development.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Identifies, cultivates and solicits donor prospects in support of NCCU Athletics to reach annual fundraising goals as set forth by the Director of Athletics in conjunction with the Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement. Actively participates with the Office of Institutional Advancement in moves management, prospect screening, and goal setting.
Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Supervises Development & Corporate operations, undergraduate and graduate interns assigned to the Development office. Serves as a member of the Department of Athletics leadership team.

Plan and implement all aspects of the major and annual gift fundraising program (prospect management from identification through stewardship, events, communications, social media, and volunteer management) for programmatic needs for a department that comprises 16 varsity sports.

Direct staff and provide leadership to Special Events, corporate partner and sponsor operations to achieve revenue generation goals for the Department of Athletics.

Collaborate with volunteers, staff and senior leaders on development goals and plans for implementation.

Work with Director of Marketing in the development of program marketing plans, strategies and projects. Responsible for leading in the development and execution of athletic department special events.

Sports supervision, serve as the central party through which the operation and activities designated sports operational activities flows. This oversight role includes meeting regularly with the head coach and interacting with assistant coaches, student-athletes, and administrative support staff. This also includes budget oversight.
