Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) supports the University and Division of Student Affairs by providing an array of preventative educational, physical and mental health services. Inclusive and student centered in our approach, SHCS adapts to the changing needs of the campus community through innovation, technology and excellence. Student Health Services is responsible for providing primary health care to the student campus community in a professional, competent caring, and confidential manner. SHS is committed to: providing reasonably comprehensive ambulatory medical services to all eligible students; promoting disease prevention through health education; providing non-classroom health education on issues that impact the student both physically and psychologically; provide counseling services with referrals to other psychological professionals when necessary; provide ancillary support services (i.e. laboratory, pharmacy, and administrative); providing advisory, collaborative, and educational assistance to other university departments; and ensuring staff competency to support and fulfill this mission. The goals are to maintain quality of care, client satisfaction, affordability, accessibility, and suitability for operational effectiveness.


Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the professional nursing staff in routine care tasks to clients (vital signs, dressing, changes, and assisting with patient care procedures. This position would also support the Student Health Pharmacist, performing pharmacy-related duties including prescription data entry, ordering, and stocking. Responsible for cleaning and stocking exam rooms on a routine basis; must perform laboratory procedures under the direct supervision of the Medical Laboratory Technician. Duties include Venous draws, Urinalysis, Occult blood testing, Rapid Strep A testing and urine pregnancy testing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of essential procedures to medical practice, basic patient care, infection control, blood born pathogen, medical terminology, laboratory processing, medication administration as instructed by provider, perform phlebotomy; knowledge of computers, fax and scan machines; knowledge of basic clinical instruments and other specialized equipment to take vital signs and perform routine care; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills; great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.

Minimum Education/Experience
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Necessary Special Qualification Requirements – Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).

Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies
Required Competency Knowledge - Technical
Duties
Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures in the routine care and treatment of patients. Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology. Ability to provide personal care for patients. This position will provide support to the professional nursing staff including pharmacists. The individual will be responsible for cleaning and stocking exam rooms on a routine basis. Perform laboratory procedures under the supervision of Medical Laboratory Technician; duties include venous draws, urinalysis, occult blood testing, rapid strep A testing and urine and pregnancy tests. Assist with inventory control, ordering and restocking of clinic items. Individuals will room patients to include taking vitals, ensuring individual has signed all required paperwork,
Required Competency Administration
Duties
This position will provide clerical support relating to medical records to include retrieving and uploading required information into EHR database. Sending out letters for the medical providers. Call students directly to set up appointments and follow up appointments. Answer phones and greet patients in the clinic.

Duties
This position will work as a part of a multidisciplinary team of healthcare staff. The individual will deliver services in an organized manner. This position will provide professional and caring approach to service delivery .

Duties
This position will explain to clients procedures being performed. This position is expected to document appropriate information and create plan of actions for patients. Ability to communicate with patients in a manner in which they understand both verbal and written.
