Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Central University’s Information Technology Services (ITS) provides information technology services to schools and departments, administrators, staff, students and the growing population of on-line and distance education students. The objectives of ITS is to Improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the administrators, faculty and staff at NCCU through the use of technology, enhance the teaching, learning and research process through the use of technology and to provide adequate support of the technology that is deployed.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical, educational, and developmental support to users of computers and related IT equipment and for the campus, and ITS department. This position will develop, maintain, and support the business and security functions of the University. This is specialized work involving complex systems and applications, many of which have high information security and uptime standards.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of networks and firewalls. Experience with file storage, VXRail, Compellent, ScaleIO, Netapp is a plus. Experience with cloud and hybrid-based software applications, single sign-on, project management., virtual collaboration tools., Hyper-converged systems and virtual desktop solutions (ex. VMWare Horizon, etc.). Demonstrated ability to prioritize work activities and complete tasks on time. Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information
Systems, or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution with two (2) years of experience as a Systems Administrator or a closely related position. Three (3) years of experience with Linux and Windows operating systems. Five (5) years of System Administration experience in a Windows environment. Minimum of three (3) years of experience with VMWare or similar virtualization software.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Function Information Technology
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Determines appropriate hardware equipment to meet campus needs. Advises on the purchase of software packages. Responsible for effective day-to-day operations of all Servers and Mass Data Storage equipment. Oversees and support various software and hardware programs and services. This position will primarily be responsible for supporting the following, Office 365 and Azure services, Google Apps Suite, AWS Services, Exchange Hybrid, VMWare, Virtual Desktop, Windows server, SQL, SharePoint, File Shares, Linux, System Center, VMware and Hyper-V clusters, Backup and DR, Active Directory Services. Positions in this classification may perform all or some of the responsibilities above and all positions perform other related duties as assigned. Creates and maintains an effective inventory system for hardware, software application and licenses. Schedules and maintains the delivery of hardware and software. Arranges for necessary service when equipment experiences technical difficulty. Reviews and authorizes payment for network equipment and/or software. Review of work request requested through the Help Desk and reporting on the outstanding work requests. Coordinates and serves project management functions for updating and upgrading technology initiatives. Provides technical implementations, daily support and monitoring of the campus infrastructure, incident response and resolution. Installing and configuring updates to virtual infrastructure; installing and configuring various operating systems and applications. Applying patches on a schedule to various servers and appliances. Monitor systems health and troubleshooting issues that arise. Creating schedules for scanning and patching; apply remediation’s when needed. Utilizes tools to implement and maintain system automation, integrations, monitoring, and reporting. Assists in the research of new application system developments. Stays current on new equipment, software, and related technical developments. Assists in the development and maintenance of the Server Infrastructure budget. Provides periodic updates to management. Responsible for installing and configuring various security and compliance tools. Run vulnerability scans and report to application or server owner. Utilize IT security standards to remove and decommission old systems equipment for surplus. implementation of new functionality OS patches and/or products being considered for purchase. Coordinates the installation and maintenance of all hardware equipment and software package upgrades on all server equipment and services. Other duties as assigned
Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Acts as liaison between end-users and Computer and Software Technicians in resolving hardware or software problems. This position serves as an integration and automation subject matter expert for on-premise and cloud deployments and data reporting. Works to ensure accurate and timely delivery of data for critical reporting needs.

Development of thorough testing plans for a variety of testing purposes including application testing for patch sets, software patch sets, service packs and unit/integration testing, application upgrades,. Document inventory assets, and maintain proper attribute settings within virtual infrastructure on objects for query purposes
