Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The primary function of the department of Environmental, Earth and Geospatial Sciences (EEGS) is to train students at undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels in the fields of environmental, environmental health and earth sciences to help them be ready for the competitive global markets. Students achieve the goal by engaging in various forms of research activities that faculty in the unit leads.
Primary Purpose of Position
Environmental Health Research group at North Carolina Central University has an open position for a NSF Postdoctoral Fellow. This position is supported by National Science Foundation Excellence in Research grant (Award number 1832134). The project group investigates critical mechanisms related to ROS life cycle by using engineered nanoparticles and carbon nanodots. For free radical life cycle assessment, the group uses Alzheimer’s disease as a disease model with ESR and Immuno-Spin Trapping method.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ideal candidate for this position would have a Ph.D. in related fields or equivalent experience in the fields of cell and/or molecular biology or free radical biology or chemistry.

Familiarity in the behavior of nanoparticles, cell signaling, and proteomics can be a plus.

Anticipated routine tasks for this position include, but are not limited to:
1) Neuronal cell culture
2) In Vitro cell study
3) ELISA with selected groups of proteins, Western blot & Confocal analysis
4) Characterization of quantum dots and engineered nanoparticles (as needed)
5) Data collection/saving and analysis with PI
6) Presentation and publication of study outcomes with PI

Fellow will have an opportunity interacting with other PIs of the project and participating in professional development opportunities.
Minimum Education/Experience
Candidate should hold a Ph.D. in biomedical and/or environmental or multidisciplinary fields.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
Candidate is not required for license or certification in addition to the required knowledge, skills and abilities mentioned in another section.
