This is a 20 hour/week internship, running from August 19, 2024-December 13, 2024. All 20 hours/week must be completed onsite at WRAL (2619 Western Blvd. Raleigh). This internship is a part of the Emerging Leaders Program, a partnership between Capitol Broadcasting Company and Leadership Triangle.

Job Description:

WRAL is a trusted brand providing the Raleigh Durham and Fayetteville market with local news, weather, sports, entertainment, and social media content. We are committed to nurturing talent in television and offer opportunities to work with a team filled with spirit, passion, and imagination. We are currently seeking a Marketing Intern to support our Promotions and commercial production. This position reports to the Marketing Director & Local Production Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in producing daily promos, image campaigns, and syndicated promotions under the guidance of the Promotions Producer.
  • Support in creating and maintaining the "brand" identity in the market through various promotional materials.
  • Learn and apply producer skills to contribute to department creativity and develop sales and support material.
  • Assist in writing captivating copy targeted to our audience.
  • Aid in actively engaging in multiple social media platforms by creating and scheduling content.
  • Participate in station events, including assisting with logistics and on-site activities within the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising manager.

Preferred Majors:

Marketing/Public Relations, Communications/Journalism, Film/Media Arts

Helpful Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency or willingness to learn Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding and basic proficiency in social media platforms.
  • Basic shooting skills and experience are a plus.

What Success in this Internship Looks Like:

Our team is a highly awarded in-house creative agency, with a specialized focus in television and news. We do everything: still and print photography/design; video editing and animation; in-person activation and events; news promotion...the list is long. We are looking for energetic, creative, big thinkers who want to learn or refine their skills.

The Emerging Leaders Program:

The Emerging Leaders Program is open to rising Juniors and Seniors at North Carolina Central

University and Shaw University. There are multiple internships at Capitol Broadcasting Company offered through the Emerging Leaders Program; please only apply to one internship.

As a part of this internship, you will complete 50 hours of leadership training with Leadership

Triangle. Your hours with Leadership Triangle are a paid component of the program and all sessions are mandatory. As an Emerging Leader, you will be paired with a leadership mentor who will support you in three 1:1 sessions. You will be introduced to leaders throughout the Triangle community and have opportunities to network and grow your professional community. All students who successfully complete the Emerging Leaders Program will be admitted into the lifelong Goodmon Fellowship.

Additionally, you will take part in a mandatory cohort-only retreat in Rocky Mount, NC. The retreat is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 - Sunday, October 13. Leadership Triangle has arranged lodging. Meals will be provided. Emerging Leaders are expected to arrange their own transportation.

Emerging Leaders will be paid $16/hr. Additionally, each intern will receive $80/month as a transportation stipend. If you do not have your own car, you will likely spend more on transportation than is covered by the stipend. Leadership Triangle will administer all payments. This is a cohort based program, designed to promote networking across local HBCUs.

The application deadline is May 31. Interns will be notified of an application decision during the week of June 10th.
