This is a 20 hour/week internship, running from August 19, 2024-December 13, 2024. At least 10 hours/week must be completed onsite at American Underground (201 W Main Street, Durham). This internship is a part of the Emerging Leaders Program, a partnership between Capitol Broadcasting Company and Leadership Triangle.

Job Description:

The American Underground is a coworking community for innovators, creators, and changemakers. This internship would focus on creating marketing content to promote the AU's amenities and membership options, in collaboration with the AU's Marketing and Events Manager. Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Brainstorming content ideas,
  • Shooting photos and/or video,
  • Video editing,
  • Graphic design,
  • Copywriting,
  • Other relevant marketing activities

The AU is a small and busy team. We are highly collaborative in setting the goals and direction of the company, but also work well independently to accomplish those goals. Success in this internship would mean engaging with creativity and energy during the periods of collaboration, and then being able to work relatively independently (sometimes remotely) to create the marketing content. In line with our brand, we encourage creativity, risk-taking, intelligence, and fun — both in our marketing content and in our approach to work.

The Emerging Leaders Program:

The Emerging Leaders Program is open to rising Juniors and Seniors at North Carolina Central

University and Shaw University. There are multiple internships at Capitol Broadcasting Company offered through the Emerging Leaders Program; please only apply to one internship.

As a part of this internship, you will complete 50 hours of leadership training with Leadership

Triangle. Your hours with Leadership Triangle are a paid component of the program and all sessions are mandatory. As an Emerging Leader, you will be paired with a leadership mentor who will support you in three 1:1 sessions. You will be introduced to leaders throughout the Triangle community and have opportunities to network and grow your professional community. All students who successfully complete the Emerging Leaders Program will be admitted into the lifelong Goodmon Fellowship.

Additionally, you will take part in a mandatory cohort-only retreat in Rocky Mount, NC. The retreat is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 - Sunday, October 13. Leadership Triangle has arranged lodging. Meals will be provided. Emerging Leaders are expected to arrange their own transportation.

Emerging Leaders will be paid $16/hr. Additionally, each intern will receive $80/month as a transportation stipend. If you do not have your own car, you will likely spend more on transportation than is covered by the stipend. Leadership Triangle will administer all payments. This is a cohort based program, designed to promote networking across local HBCUs.

The application deadline is May 31. Interns will be notified of an application decision during the week of June 10th.
