This internship is open to rising Juniors and Seniors at NCCU, Shaw University and St. Augustine’s University. Please note, students should apply to one internship only.

WRAL News is seeking an intern to join our news team this Fall for an exciting, paid learning opportunity. Prepare yourself for a future in the news industry with the support of experienced journalists and the tremendous resources of WRAL.

Responsibilities will include gathering news, doing research and writing for multiple platforms. Candidates will learn how to produce, order graphics, update digital stories and job shadow in different roles across the newsroom. Interns will also answer WRAL News desk inquiries, confirm information by phone and email, contribute story ideas and run teleprompter.

WRAL is committed to helping you realize your potential and work toward your professional goals. The hands-on internship provides professional and leadership development and a chance to network and connect with journalists. It would require a 20-hour work week over Fall semester for 18 weeks. Strong communication abilities, internet research experience and exceptional phone handling skills are a must. An ideal candidate must be able to work under tight deadlines, be willing to work a variety of shifts and be prepared to work holidays.

Only candidates attending historically Black colleges and universities seeking a degree in journalism or a related field of study are eligible to apply. You must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to work at CBC, WRAL’s parent company. If there is a medical or religious reason preventing you from receiving an available COVID-19 vaccination, and you are selected as a candidate for consideration, we have an accommodations process in place to evaluate those requests.
