Job Description - Australia Economist:

As the Chief Economist you will be responsible for written, research and forecasts of the Australian economy. This research will focus on the macroeconomic environment and its implications for investment in equity, interest rate and foreign exchange markets.

You will also be required to work in close conjunction across the broader research team including with other analysts and strategists both domestically and globally. The role has a high degree of client focus both internally and externally. You will be primarily involved with compiling and analyzing economic data and financial market information, quantitative analysis, economic forecasting, ad hoc client requests, regular contributions to written research, interactions with and presentations to both internal and external clients. The position is located in Sydney with the ability to travel required.

Required Experience:

  • Master or Ph.D. degree in Economics or Finance with macro-economic focus
  • 8+ years working as an economist with a macro-economic focus
  • Investment/ retail bank, central bank, or Government Treasury experience preferred
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with quantitative analysis and database management
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with publishing and spreadsheet software
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with both internal and external clients
  • Demonstrated ability to work tight deadlines, with degree of independence and high level of initiative and motivation
  • Experience with econometric software as well as data and news services including Bloomberg, DataStream and Reuters
